Vitamin A
Group: Vitamin
Description:
Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for healthy vision, skin, immune system function, and reproduction. It is required for the production of photoreceptors in the eyes and to maintain the lining of the surface of the eyes. A blood test measures the level of vitamin A in the blood, usually in the form of retinol. Vitamin A deficiency can lead to symptoms such as night blindness, dry eyes, skin, and hair, ulcers and damage to the cornea, skin thickening and lesions, and grayish spots on the eye lining. Conversely, too much vitamin A can lead to toxicity.
