Lipase
Aliases: LPS
Group: Enzyme
Description:
Lipase is an enzyme that helps the body digest fats. It is produced primarily in the pancreas and released into the small intestine after a meal. A lipase test measures the amount of lipase in the blood and is often used to diagnose and monitor conditions related to the pancreas. Elevated lipase levels in the blood are most often due to damage or disease associated with the pancreas, such as acute pancreatitis. On the other hand, low levels of lipase in the blood may be associated with pancreatic dysfunction or metabolic disorders.
