Albumin

Aliases: ALB, Serum albumin

Group: Protein

Description:

Albumin is a protein produced by the liver. Albumin enters the bloodstream and helps keep fluid from leaking out of blood vessels and into other tissues. It also transports hormones, vitamins and enzymes throughout the body. Without sufficient albumin, fluid can leak from the blood and accumulate in the lungs, abdomen or other parts of the body. **Low** Low levels of albumin can be a sign of liver or kidney disease or another medical condition. **High** High levels may be a sign of dehydration.
