SHBG
Aliases: Sex Hormone-Binding Globuline, testosterone-estrogen binding globulin, TeBG
Group: Hormone
Description:
SHBG stands for sex hormone binding globulin. It is a protein produced by the liver that binds to sex hormones found in both men and women. - Testosterone, the main sex hormone in men. - Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), another male sex hormone. - Estradiol, a form of estrogen, the main sex hormone in women. SHBG controls the amount of these hormones that are distributed to tissues in the body. Although SHBG binds to all three of these hormones, a SHBG test is primarily used to analyze testosterone. SHBG levels can indicate whether the body is using too much or too little testosterone.
