DHEA
Aliases: DHEA-sulfate, DHEAS, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate
Group: Hormone
Description:
DHEAS stands for dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. DHEAS is a male sex hormone found in both men and women. DHEAS plays an important role in the production of the male sex hormone testosterone and the female sex hormone estrogen. It is also involved in the development of male sexual characteristics during puberty. DHEAS is produced mainly in the adrenal glands, two small glands located above the kidneys. They help control heart rate, blood pressure and other bodily functions. Smaller amounts of DHEAS are produced in the testes of men and the ovaries of women. If DHEAS levels are not normal, it may mean there is a problem with the adrenal glands or sex organs.
