GGT

Aliases: gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, GGTP, Gamma-GT, GTP, Y-GT

Group: Liver function

Description:

GGT is an enzyme found throughout the body, but it is mainly found in the liver. When the liver is damaged, GGT can leak into the blood. High levels of GGT in the blood can be a sign of liver disease or damage to the bile ducts. The GGT test cannot diagnose the specific cause of liver disease. For this reason, it is usually performed along with or after other liver function tests.
