WBC
Aliases: White blood count
Group: Complete blood count
Description:
The white blood cell count measures the number of white blood cells in the blood. White blood cells are part of the immune system. They help the body fight infections and other diseases. In case of illness, the body produces more white blood cells to fight bacteria, viruses or other foreign substances that cause the disease. This increases the number of white blood cells. Other diseases may cause the body to produce fewer white blood cells than necessary. In this case, the number of white blood cells decreases.
